Tips to Getting Along with Siblings (and others)

Tips to Getting Along with Siblings (and others):

Sometimes it’s hard to get along with our siblings. I know how hard that is, because I sometimes have trouble getting along with my brother (Jack). Sometimes, we just both feel like we’re “right” and the other person is “wrong”. We don’t want to give in! That’s when we need Jesus’ help to forgive our brother or sister. The bible says, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you” (NIV, Col. 3.13).

But how? That’s a hard question! We all want our way, and we’re not about to budge. Here are some good tips on how to agree:

  1. Pray - What’s better than taking your disagreement to God? Always do that, even before the other tips!

  2. Take turns talking - Tell the other person why you feel they’re wrong and let them tell you why they feel you’re wrong. Don’t interrupt because that usually causes more trouble.

  3. Ignore rude comments - Your sibling’s just trying to push your limits, so show him/her that you’re stronger than they think :)

  4. Compromise - Sometimes we can both get part of our way.

  5. Stop and relax for a few seconds - Don’t get annoyed :)

  6. Say sorry - Tell your sibling that you’re sorry and start over again.

Hopefully, that helps you and gives you some tips for the next time you start arguing and bickering. And even if you don’t have siblings remember that there’s always someone else you might start disagreeing with (mom, dad, friend, etc.) so learn these tips, too!
