What in the world is Temperance anyway? This is a word that has been around a long time and really just means you don't do anything harmful (like drugs, alcohol, or tobacco), and you don't overdo things that are good for you. Even something as healthy for you as sunshine or exercise can be bad for you if taken to the extreme.
How is too much of a good thing a bad thing?
Exercise - To much exercise can hurt your muscles. Your body has over 600 different muscles so there is no need to over work only a few at a time. Mix it up, try to use different parts of your body, for instance, maybe one day you ride bikes (legs), and the next day you play badminton or tennis (arms).
Sleep - Sleep is good! You certainly need to get enough sleep because that's when your body heals, grows, rebuilds, recharges. Be temperate in the time you go to bed every night and get up in the morning. It's best to have a set sleep schedule and stick to it. Also, the hours before midnight are when you get the best rest, do the most growing, so try to get to bed as early as possible ever night. Going to sleep early and waking up early is much better than going to bed late and waking late.
Food - You certainly need food, food is good in proper moderation, but too much food or the wrong kind of food can be bad for you and even shorten your life. Check out the nutrition page for ideas of how to eat the right kind of food and don't eat more than you need. Something you can do is don't eat too quickly and check your appetite after 20 minutes. If you feel satisfied, it's probably ok to stop eating for that meal. Something else to consider is regularity in eating. It's best to eat at the same times every day and to give your stomach as much time as possible between meals as you can (5 hours between meals is best). Try not to snack and aim for not eating 2-3 hours before going to bed at night.
Sunshine - Sunshine is awesome, God built into our daylight a way for us, by getting enough sunlight during the day, to get vitamin D and set our internal clocks so that we can sleep better at night. But too much sun can be harmful; it can burn your skin which, over time, can cause skin cancer and premature aging (adults who look much older than they are, trust me, they don't like that!), it can hurt your eyes, it can make you feel sick if you get too much. Tips: keep track of how long you are out in the sun (don't let yourself stay out long enough to get a sunburn). Wear protective gear (hats, long sleeve clothes, sunscreen). Stay out of the sun when it is the highest in the sky (most important in the summer).
