Sign the Petition
Nathan Zohner, an almost 15-year-old freshman at a certain school, won first prize at a Science Fair. In his project, he urged fellow classmates and students to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination (The complete removal or destruction of something) of the chemical "Dihydrogen Monoxide".
He included this as the basis for his petition:
It contributes to the "Greenhouse Effect".
It can cause severe burns in its gaseous state.
It is also known as hydroxyl acid and is a major component of acid rain.
Accidental breathing in this chemical can kill you.
It contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
It quickens corrosion and rusting of many metals.
It has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.
It may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:
a. as an industrial solvent and coolant.
b. in nuclear power plants.
c. in the production of styrofoam.
d. as a fire retardant.
e. in many forms of cruel animal research.
f. in the distribution of pesticides- even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.
g. as an additive in certain junk foods and other food products.
Of the fifty students who considered this petition, forty-three of them agreed, and six of them were undecided. Only one knew that "Dihydrogen Monoxide" is really... What? WATER!!!
This definitely demonstrates the kind of false reasoning that is so very common among people today! It shows that something so innocent as water can seem a dangerous threat to human life. Would you sign the petition without thinking? Or would you check it out for yourself? The same thing is true spiritually. Will you just go along with what your pastor says or will you check it out for yourself in the bible?
