In Dependence
In America, this week holds a memorable holiday; Independence Day, also known as the 4th of July. We celebrate being free and making our own choices. As Americans, we celebrate independence, but as Christians, we celebrate being in dependence on God.
The whole world is dependent on God, but Christians acknowledge that. We depend on God for everything. The breath we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink, and everything else. Even manufactured objects, like cars, get their materials from God.
Without God, we wouldn’t be alive, and without his daily help, we’d be sad, rejected, and lonely. We are truly dependent on God, but some people don’t like that. They spend their time on the “outer” edge of the fence instead of inside the miles and miles of freedom. They try to become “free” and do things God does not permit, but they end up unhappy. They jump ahead of God, don’t ask for his permission or help, and fail.
I would rather be happy, fruitful, successful, and in dependence on God. Yes, we can celebrate being free this week as Americans, but we must remember to celebrate, as Christians, our dependence on God.
