A Cat in the Tree
We have three cats named Beethoven, Mozart, and Maria. Also, my grandparents have a cat named Lizzie. Well, once they decided to go on a trip. But they couldn't find anyone to watch their cat, so they asked us. We eagerly said "Yes"! So, on a Sunday we picked her up. She hated riding in the car, and when we got home, she hissed at our cats.
The next day we let her outside. My grandma warned me that Lizzie loves trees, and I soon found out how true that is. I went outside to make sure she hadn’t escaped…AND SHE WAS ON THE ROOF. THE ACTUAL LITERAL REAL ROOF OF OUR HOUSE!!! Well. That was something I hadn't expected. She had climbed the crepe myrtle tree right by the roof and then jumped on the roof. “MeowMeowMeowMeow!” I called. (She doesn’t respond to “Lizzie!” Only “MeowMeow.”) She came down.
A little later it was raining pretty hard, so I decided to check on her. I put on my mom’s raincoat, and out I went. Lizzie was there, on the roof, soaked, meowing helplessly. I was getting wet, and getting wet fast. So I tried to avoid the rain pouring. “MeowMeow, come down!” I yelled. She wanted to come down, because by now it was raining REALLY REALLY hard. I called and called and called, until finally, she climbed into the crepe myrtle tree. She was pretty slow at it, because the tree was slippery. “Come down,” I yelled. She crept down slowly until she slipped and fell from the tree. I grabbed her and raced for a door. When I got inside, I asked for towels and we cleaned her up.
The next day we let her outside again. It was Tuesday. Tuesday night, I decided to get Lizzie because it was getting dark. I went outside, and, no surprise, she was on the roof. The only problem was… SHE WOULD NOT COME DOWN. I spent 20 minutes calling and running around the entire outside of the house. Finally, I went inside. I ate supper and went back. It was darker now, and there was rain in the forecast. I was getting worried. What if she didn’t come down? I called. She started to come down from the tree, but got stuck and climbed right back up. I was getting pretty stressed. What was I going to do? I prayed over and over again. Finally, she came down, only to get stuck in the same spot. This time, she couldn’t get out. I had to do something. Even though I’m pretty tall, I am not (and probably never will be) 8 feet tall. All I could do was stand there thinking. The only thing I could do was climb up the tree myself. Twice I attempted to climb the tree, and finally, I stood on tippy toes as high as I could tiptoe. I reached as high as I could and barely touched the cat. With my fingers, I grabbed her and climbed out of the tree. I took her inside and after a while put her in the garage where our other cats were.
Jesus did something much harder than rescuing us from a roof. He died for us to save us. We ask Him to forgive us and He does, but every time we go back to whatever we were doing, just like Lizzie did. Let’s ask Jesus to forgive us and help us not to go back to sin anymore.
